Speaking of the New Year

The Ethiopian New Year (September 11, 2001) is around the corner and once again the oft repeated refrain "How time flies" is on our lips. We look back to the year that was even as we look forward to the coming. For millions, unfortunately, the New is just a continuation of the Old. The spectre of famine still stalks our land.

Maybe we need to tone down the festivities this time in deference to those less fortunate. Maybe we ought to engage in some serious soul searching.

Behold, we come unto thee; for thou art the Lord, our God. Jeremiah 3:22
Heal me, O Lord, and I shall be healed; save me, and I shall be saved; for thou art my praise. Jeremiah 17:14

Come, and let us return unto the Lord: for he hath torn, and he will heal us; he hath smitten, and he will bind us up. Hosea 6:1
